The slow-motion runs on the beach are coming back.
A reboot of Baywatch, the lifeguard drama that originally ran for 11 seasons starting in 1989, is headed to Fox. The 12-episode series is set to premiere in January 2027, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Production is currently underway in Venice Beach and on the Fox studio lot in Century City.
Matt Nix, known for Burn Notice and True Lies, serves as showrunner and executive producer alongside McG, who will also direct the first episode. McG is known for The O.C. and Charlie's Angels. Michael Berk, Greg Bonann, Doug Schwartz, Dante Di Loreto and Mike Horowitz round out the producing team.
Stephen Amell was the first official cast member announced. He plays Hobie Buchannon, the son of Mitch Buchannon, the character played by David Hasselhoff in the original series. Amell's previous credits include Arrow, Suits LA and Heels.
Jessica Belkin plays Charlie Vale, Hobie's biological daughter, in a series regular role. Charlie leaves a complicated home life in Texas to show up on her father's doorstep hoping to become a lifeguard. Belkin has credits in The Hunting Wives and Bad Day and will also appear in the upcoming Legally Blonde prequel series Elle.
Hassie Harrison, who appeared in Taylor Sheridan's Yellowstone, plays Nat, a former foster kid turned Olympic athlete who holds high standards for lifeguarding and serves as Hobie's closest friend.
Noah Beck plays Luke, a rookie lifeguard and the youngest in a family of firefighters who would rather be at the beach than the firehouse. Beck began as a social media influencer before moving into acting. He is known for the Tubi YA romance franchise Sidelined.
Shay Mitchell joined the cast as a series regular playing Trina, a former lawyer who left a top-tier firm to become a full-time lifeguard.
The original Baywatch featured an ensemble that included Hasselhoff, Pamela Anderson, Carmen Electra and Jason Momoa. The reboot cast list continues to grow as additional announcements are made.
