Bam Adebayo punched former teammate Tyler Herro Friday morning at a Las Vegas hotel, one day after Herro was in town for the start of NBA Summer League play. The incident took place inside a gym at the Resorts World Casino, sources told ESPN.
According to ESPN and The Athletic, Adebayo walked onto the court and approached Herro after Herro said something to him. Adebayo then punched him without hesitation. Multiple sources who witnessed the incident and were granted anonymity to discuss a sensitive matter described what happened next: "Adebayo walked onto the courts and Herro said something to him. Adebayo approached Herro and, without hesitation, punched him. Herro's AAU coach confronted Adebayo, and Herro yelled at his former teammate while being escorted out by security personnel. Both players left the scene on their own."
Adebayo had approached Herro about comments Herro recently made about him on social media, according to reports.
The two played together with the Miami Heat for seven seasons before Herro was traded to the Milwaukee Bucks last month in a blockbuster deal centered around Giannis Antetokounmpo. Along with Herro, the Heat sent Kel'el Ware, Jaime Jaquez Jr., Kasparas Jakucionis, three first-round picks, and a pair of pick swaps to Milwaukee.
Later on Friday, the Heat and Bucks faced each other at the Thomas & Mack Center in a Summer League game. Herro was in attendance and was interviewed during the game's broadcast on Prime before news of the altercation became public. He said, "It's all love in Miami," and noted that he had seen a few of his former teammates and coaches. He declined to comment when later approached by Ira Winderman of the Sun-Sentinel.
The Heat told multiple outlets that they "are aware" of the incident but "not commenting."
Adebayo, 28, was the No. 14 overall pick out of Kentucky by the Heat in the 2017 NBA Draft. He has earned three All-Star selections and six NBA All-Defense selections during his career. He signed a three-year, $165 million extension in 2024 that runs through the 2028-29 season. Herro, 26, was the No. 13 overall pick, also out of Kentucky, selected by Miami in the 2019 Draft. He won Sixth Man of the Year in 2022 and made his first All-Star appearance in 2025.
