The Summer Games Done Quick marathon wrapped up early Sunday morning after raising $2,408,701 for Doctors Without Borders, the organizers announced. The event ran from July 5 to July 11 in Minneapolis.
About 2,500 people attended in person, and thousands more watched from home through the event's Twitch and YouTube channels, according to Engadget. A full archive of the streams is now available on both platforms.
The event produced at least one new speedrunning world record. Streamer Bluekandy completed a No Dupes run of Kirby Air Riders with a final time of 37 minutes and 54 seconds. The organizers also pointed to other memorable moments from the week, including "a Balatro run that beat all odds, and impromptu beatboxing during the Resident Evil: Requiem run."
The total raised this year matches the level of previous Summer Games Done Quick events, which have consistently broken the $2 million mark for Doctors Without Borders. The charity gaming marathon has become one of the larger annual fundraising events in the streaming world, built around runners completing games as fast as possible while viewers donate to unlock bonus content and challenges during the broadcast.
