Cornerback Denzel Ward agreed to a two-year contract extension with the Cleveland Browns worth $62.2 million during NFL training camp, multiple outlets reported. The deal keeps one of the team's longest-tenured defensive players in Cleveland.

According to NBC Sports and ESPN, the extension was finalized during training camp. Bleacher Report described it as a historic new contract for Ward given the updated NFL salary cap environment.

Ward was selected by Cleveland with the fourth overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft and has spent his entire career with the Browns. The extension adds two years beyond his existing deal.

The contract also drew attention beyond Cleveland. Yahoo Sports reported that the Ward deal complicates contract negotiations between the Pittsburgh Steelers and cornerback Joey Porter Jr., as the new benchmark potentially raises market expectations for other corners around the league.
