Vin Diesel read the script for Fast Forever and posted about it on Instagram Saturday. His verdict: "I just read the Fast Forever script by [Michael Lesslie]. It is the best script I have read in decades. I am still crying."
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the post accompanied a trailer for the upcoming theatrical re-release of the original The Fast and the Furious, which races back into theaters on August 21 for its 25th anniversary. Diesel urged fans to see it: "When March 17th 2028 comes… you will thank God you got to see the first one in the theaters this summer."
Fast Forever is the 11th installment in the franchise and is set to premiere March 17, 2028, from Universal. Diesel announced in February 2024 that the film would serve as the franchise finale. Over the past year, he has been building anticipation, telling fans the movie would mark a return to the roots of the series.
At FuelFest, an automotive event organized by Paul Walker's brother Cody Walker, Diesel revealed that the next film would mark a "return to the car culture, to the street racing." He also teased a reunion between his character Dom and the late Paul Walker's character Brian O'Conner. "That is what you're going to get in the finale," Diesel said.
Walker, who played Brian throughout the franchise, died in a car crash on November 30, 2013, at age 40. Furious 7 was still in production at the time. His remaining scenes were completed using CGI, archival footage, and his brothers Caleb and Cody Walker as stand-ins.
Fast Forever will follow 2023's Fast X, directed by Louis Leterrier. That film starred franchise regulars Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Ludacris, Jordana Brewster, and Sung Kang, alongside Jason Statham, John Cena, Helen Mirren, Charlize Theron, Jason Momoa, Brie Larson, and Alan Ritchson. A sequel to Fast X was originally expected in spring 2025 before being delayed.
Deadline reported that Diesel said last month he has spent more than three years working toward a satisfying conclusion. "Over the past three and a half years, we've been grinding to try to make the most amazing finale," he said.
The Fast & Furious franchise has grossed more than $7 billion worldwide. While the main film series is ending, Diesel has previously said that NBCUniversal has four TV shows in development set within the Fast & Furious world. Peacock is also separately developing a TV series based on the films.
