Martha Stewart turned 85 this week and spent part of the milestone in a hot tub at her Maine estate, posting a photo to social media while wearing a black swimsuit surrounded by evergreen trees.
The lifestyle entrepreneur has been candid about how she approaches aging, and her birthday brought a fresh round of comments on the subject. According to a report by Fox News, Stewart told People magazine she has never gone under the knife despite decades in the public eye.
"I have not had any plastic surgery at all. I don't think I need it," Stewart told People magazine.
She said her approach relies on skin care, facial treatments, and what she described as maintenance. "I use a little bit of fillers," she explained. "I go maybe once every four months for touch-ups." She drew a clear line between that and more involved procedures. "I'm more a maintenance kind of person. I'm not getting boobs done and hips and butts and stuff like that."
Stewart also credited genetics and daily habits. "I have good genes. My mom looked great at 95," she said. "We eat well. We don't drink very much. We don't smoke. We eat healthy food. We exercise daily. I horseback-ride."
Her daily routine includes waking at 3 a.m. to complete puzzles before starting her day. She recently recreated her 1995 People magazine cover at her 156-acre farm in Bedford, New York.
On the subject of relationships, Stewart said companionship has become less of a priority. "Now, it's less important," she said when asked whether she still envies friends with happy marriages. "The older you get, the less you really need a mate, I think." She added, "I wouldn't want to be beleaguered with an older, ill person."
She described her birthday as something she does not treat as a major occasion. "I don't think about age," she told People. "Eighty-five is just a number; that's all I consider it. I don't want to have a party. It's not a big deal." She closed with a statement about what motivates her. "My goal is to keep learning about everything."
