Spider-Man: Brand New Day just rewrote the record books. The Sony and Marvel Studios film crossed $500 million at the domestic box office in a single week, making it the fastest movie ever to reach that milestone in North America.
According to Deadline, the film beat out Avengers: Endgame, which took eight days to cross the same threshold back in 2019. The previous Spider-Man entry, Spider-Man: No Way Home, took 12 days to hit the mark in 2021. Star Wars: The Force Awakens needed 10 days when it crossed $500 million back in 2015.
Brand New Day is now the 23rd film in history to gross more than $500 million at the North American box office. After earning around $27 million on the day in question, its running domestic total stood at an estimated $508.8 million. The film also posted $32.7 million on the Wednesday of that same week, making it the second-best Wednesday ever for a non-opening title, trailing only The Force Awakens' $38 million on December 23, 2015.
The record-setting film is directed by Destin Daniel Cretton and stars Tom Holland and Zendaya. It opened without IMAX auditoriums as part of its initial rollout, but those screens finally came on board this weekend in a co-share arrangement with Universal's The Odyssey, which has seen near-sellouts in major IMAX markets stretching into October. Brand New Day is holding onto all PLF auditoriums this weekend.
The film now faces a key benchmark: the sophomore-weekend record held by The Force Awakens, which pulled in $149.2 million in its second frame. Previews for competing films this weekend include Universal's romantic comedy One Night Only, Eli Roth's Ice Cream Man from Horror Section, and Searchlight's R-rated comedy Super Troopers 3.
Brand New Day becomes the 23rd film ever to top $500 million domestically, joining a list that remains led by The Force Awakens with $936.6 million all-time in North America.
