Fontaines D.C. played their first live shows of 2026 last weekend, using the stage in Cadiz, Spain to debut new music ahead of a busy festival schedule. The band performed on Friday and Saturday, August 7 and 8, as part of a summer slate that leads to headline slots at Reading and Leeds Festival on August 28 and 29, and Ireland's Electric Picnic on August 30.

According to Billboard, during their 19-song set the group performed two new songs titled "Marianne" and "Six Shot Morning," based on setlists collected by fans at the event. Both songs feature darker, more electronic elements, building on moments from the band's past two albums Skinty Fia (2022) and Romance (2024).

Earlier this year the band confirmed to NME that new material was in progress. Guitarist Carlos O'Connell said they had "been writing, it's been fun."

The band's fourth album, Romance, received two Grammy nominations at the 67th Grammy Awards, landing in the best rock album and best alternative music performance categories, the latter for the track "Starburster."

The summer shows come in the wake of a painful loss for the group. In June, their longtime manager Trevor Dietz died at age 47. The band had called him their "sixth member." In a tribute, they wrote: "Trevor was beside us from the beginning of our journey as a band, we have never known Fontaines D.C. without him, the sixth member of the band. He cared passionately for us and for what was fair and right in the wider world. He was fearless in his beliefs. We will miss him always."

After the Spain dates, the band continues with shows in France, Switzerland and Austria before September festival appearances at Atlanta's Shaky Knees Festival on September 18, Sea.Hear.Now in Asbury Park, New Jersey on September 20, and Ohana Festival in Dana Point, California on September 27.
