Grand Theft Auto VI is set to launch November 19, 2026, but players worried about the future of GTA Online got some reassurance from Take-Two Interactive. During a recent earnings call, CEO Strauss Zelnick confirmed that the company has no plans to wind down support for the existing game.
According to Screen Rant, Zelnick stated: "Generally speaking, our update cadence for GTA Online has been pretty stable. Some of the updates have been amazing, and some have been less successful, but generally speaking, consumers really love them. But the cadence hasn't really changed, and we do apply significant resources to that, and we do expect to support Grand Theft Auto Online going forward."
GTA Online launched alongside Grand Theft Auto V and has grown into Take-Two's largest ongoing revenue source. The concern among players was that the arrival of a new title in the franchise would pull resources away from the existing online platform, or lead to it being phased out entirely. Zelnick's comments suggest neither is planned.
Grand Theft Auto VI will launch as a single-player experience first, with online multiplayer coming at a later date. The game is current-gen only, which raises questions about whether the two online ecosystems could ever be merged. Red Dead Online, the multiplayer mode attached to Red Dead Redemption 2, was largely abandoned by Rockstar after Red Dead Redemption 2's release, leaving some GTA Online players concerned about a similar outcome.
No specific details about how the two games will coexist online have been announced. For now, Take-Two's position is that GTA Online continues as before.
