Arizona broke through with three runs in the fifth, with Gabriel Moreno’s two-run double capping the rally. Lars Nootbaar then hit a pinch-hit two-run homer in the sixth to give Arizona a 5-2 advantage, but Mickey Gasper answered with a three-run homer in the bottom of the inning to tie the game. The San Francisco Giants defeated the Cleveland Guardians 1-0 at Progressive Field. Victor Bericoto drove in the only run of the game with a fourth-inning single that scored Rafael Devers. Matt Wilkinson worked two scoreless innings as San Francisco’s opener in his major-league debut before Adrian Houser took over. Houser earned the win by pitching five scoreless innings, allowing four hits and two walks while striking out three. Cleveland starter Parker Messick was the hard-luck loser despite striking out 10 and allowing only one run over 6 2/3 innings. Dylan Smith struck out five over the final two innings to record his third save. Attendance was 20,021.
The Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the Colorado Rockies 6-4 in 10 innings at Coors Field to improve to 77-51 and complete a three-game sweep. Mookie Betts had three hits, including a home run, while Kiké Hernández also homered. The Houston Astros defeated the Los Angeles Angels 3-2 at Daikin Park. Christian Vázquez put Houston ahead with a solo home run in the third inning. Denzer Guzman answered with a two-run double in the fourth to give the Angels a 2-1 lead after what initially appeared to be a three-run home run was changed because of fan interference. Jose Altuve tied the game with an RBI double in the bottom of the fourth, and Cam Smith followed with a sacrifice fly that scored Isaac Paredes and put Houston back in front. Bennett Sousa earned the victory in relief, while Josh Hader recorded his 18th save. Angels starter Walbert Ureña allowed three runs on three hits over five innings. Attendance was 21,162.
The Chicago White Sox shut out the Chicago Cubs 3-0 at Wrigley Field. Sean Newcomb opened the game for the White Sox and pitched two hitless innings before José Urquidy took over in long relief. Urquidy earned the victory after allowing only two hits across six scoreless innings while striking out eight without issuing a walk. Andrew Benintendi broke a scoreless tie with an RBI single in the sixth inning. Rookie Braden Montgomery added a two-run double in the eighth to extend the lead. Cavalli improved to 11-5, while Rangers starter Kumar Rocker fell to 4-10 after allowing two runs over five innings. Three Washington relievers completed the four-hit shutout.
The Kansas City Royals rallied to defeat the Athletics 9-7 at Kauffman Stadium. Kansas City entered the eighth inning trailing before erupting for seven runs. Maikel Garcia opened the inning with a triple and Vinnie Pasquantino followed with an RBI single off the right-field wall. Pasquantino also homered earlier in the game and finished with four productive plate appearances as Kansas City won its fourth straight game. The New York Mets defeated the San Diego Padres 4-2 at Citi Field. Carson Benge gave New York a 2-0 lead with a two-run homer in the fourth inning. Fernando Tatis Jr. doubled home Xander Bogaerts in the fifth to cut the Padres’ deficit to one. The Mets added two runs in the eighth after San Diego committed a throwing error on a potential double-play ball, with A.J. Ewing scoring on the play before Jared Young added an RBI single. Gavin Sheets delivered a pinch-hit RBI single for San Diego in the ninth, but Kodai Senga induced a game-ending double play to secure his fourth save.
