A Wisconsin high school quarterback died this week after sustaining injuries during his team's first game of the season. Adam Massman, a senior at Alma Center Lincoln High School in central Wisconsin, died following injuries he sustained during a game played Thursday, August 20.
According to a report by USA Today, Lincoln defeated Turtle Lake 42-18 that night. EMTs were onsite at the game, and Massman was transported to the hospital following the contest. The specific nature of his injuries has not been disclosed. The school district said it is only releasing information that has been approved by Massman's family.
Superintendent Drew Semingson released a statement about the loss. "Adam was active in our Lincoln community, participating in multiple sports, clubs, and activities making friends everywhere he went," Semingson said. "This loss touches our Lincoln family in many ways. Adam's family has deep connections throughout our schools."
The school opened its doors to students, parents, and friends who needed to speak with counselors. Additional counseling support was made available Monday, August 24, at noon and was set to continue through Tuesday.
