Six American golfers have locked in automatic bids for the Presidents Cup this fall, with Wyndham Clark the last to secure his spot after winning the BMW Championship on Sunday in St. Louis.
According to Yahoo Sports, Clark's victory moved him up four places in the standings, from seventh to third, clinching his place on the U.S. team. It was his third Tour win of the season, including a U.S. Open title in June. The BMW Championship was the second of three FedExCup Playoffs events.
Scottie Scheffler and Cameron Young had already qualified before this week's tournament. Scheffler, with two wins and five runner-up finishes on the year, finished with nearly twice the amount of points as Young. Sam Burns, Russell Henley and Collin Morikawa also locked in their spots after being projected to qualify for weeks. Scheffler, Burns and Morikawa will each be playing on their fourth Presidents Cup team.
U.S. captain Brandt Snedeker will now select six additional players to complete the 12-man roster. The International Team will be led by captain Geoff Ogilvy, with Si Woo Kim as the current frontrunner for that squad. The International Team's six automatic qualifiers will be determined after the Tour Championship next week in Atlanta.
The Presidents Cup begins September 24 at Medinah Country Club in Chicago. The United States has won 10 consecutive meetings and defeated the International Team 18.5 to 11.5 in Montreal in 2024.
