Atlanta Braves 6, Los Angeles Dodgers 5
The Atlanta Braves defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers 6-5 at Truist Park, winning in dramatic fashion on Ha-Seong Kim’s pinch-hit, walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth inning.
Matt Olson opened the scoring with a solo home run in the first inning, but the Dodgers moved ahead 3-1 after scoring once in the second and getting a two-run homer from Tommy Edman in the third. Atlanta answered with three runs in the fourth, highlighted by Drake Baldwin’s two-run double, and Sean Murphy added a solo homer in the sixth to make it 5-3.
Los Angeles rallied for two runs in the seventh to tie the game at 5-5. In the ninth, Lane Thomas doubled against Tanner Scott and Austin Riley was intentionally walked. Kim then singled home Thomas with two outs for the winning run. Victor Mederos pitched a perfect ninth inning and improved to 3-1.
Cincinnati Reds 10, San Francisco Giants 9
The Cincinnati Reds produced one of the wildest comebacks of the season, scoring seven runs in the ninth inning to stun the San Francisco Giants 10-9.
Cincinnati trailed 9-3 entering the ninth. Héctor Rodríguez, who homered twice in the game, started the comeback with a solo shot. Eugenio Suárez later crushed a grand slam that brought the Reds within one, and Tyler Stephenson delivered the go-ahead single.
The victory marked Cincinnati’s first win since 1958 in a game in which it entered the ninth inning trailing by at least six runs. Tony Santillan received the win despite allowing three runs in the eighth, while Emilio Pagán worked a scoreless ninth for his 17th save.
Baltimore Orioles 8, St. Louis Cardinals 7
The Baltimore Orioles survived a major Cardinals comeback and defeated St. Louis 8-7 on Christian Encarnacion-Strand’s ninth-inning RBI double.
Baltimore exploded for five runs in the first inning, with Leody Taveras homering during the early surge. Pete Alonso added a two-run homer in the second to make it 7-0.
St. Louis slowly erased the deficit, including six runs in the fifth inning, and eventually tied the game at 7-7. Luis Vázquez reached in the ninth before Encarnacion-Strand doubled him home for the deciding run.
The victory improved Baltimore to 65-68 and kept the Orioles within 2½ games of Cleveland for the final American League wild-card position.
Cleveland Guardians 4, Los Angeles Angels 3
The Cleveland Guardians rallied from a three-run deficit to defeat the Los Angeles Angels 4-3 and complete a three-game sweep.
Los Angeles scored three times in the second inning and carried a 3-0 advantage into the fifth. Travis Bazzana began Cleveland’s comeback with a sacrifice fly, and the Guardians pulled within one in the eighth.
The most important correction from the earlier account comes in the ninth inning. Steven Kwan’s ground-rule double drove home the tying run, not the winning run. Bazzana then delivered a sacrifice fly that scored Kwan and gave Cleveland its 4-3 lead.
Hunter Gaddis earned the win and Erik Sabrowski recorded his first save of the season. Cleveland extended its winning streak to seven games and has now beaten the Angels eight consecutive times dating to last season.
Tampa Bay Rays 3, Detroit Tigers 0
Freddy Peralta delivered six scoreless innings as the Tampa Bay Rays shut out the Detroit Tigers 3-0 at Comerica Park.
Tampa Bay scored twice in the second inning. Chandler Simpson scored on Jonny DeLuca’s double, and DeLuca later came home on Cedric Mullins’ two-out single. Liam Hicks added a sacrifice fly in the sixth for the Rays’ third run.
Peralta allowed only two singles over six innings while striking out four and walking none. It was his first victory in five starts since Tampa Bay acquired him from the New York Mets at the trade deadline. Kevin Kelly followed with two scoreless innings before Tyler Wells worked the ninth for his fifth save.
The win moved the AL East-leading Rays to 79-54.
Arizona Diamondbacks 2, Chicago Cubs 0
Eduardo Rodriguez turned in one of Wednesday’s strongest pitching performances as the Arizona Diamondbacks blanked the Chicago Cubs 2-0 at Chase Field.
Rodriguez worked seven scoreless innings, allowing only two hits while striking out nine. Jordan Lawlar finally broke a scoreless tie with a solo home run in the sixth inning, and Ryan Waldschmidt added an insurance run with a sacrifice fly in the eighth.
Juan Morillo pitched a perfect ninth for his second save of the season, rather than his third.
Arizona improved to 71-63 and remained one game behind San Diego in the race for the final National League wild-card berth.
Philadelphia Phillies 6, Seattle Mariners 0
Kyle Schwarber reached a major power milestone and Jesús Luzardo dominated on the mound as the Philadelphia Phillies shut out the Seattle Mariners 6-0.
Bryce Harper hit a two-run homer in the first inning before Schwarber launched a three-run shot in the second. The home run was Schwarber’s MLB-leading 40th of the season and gave him his fourth 40-homer season with Philadelphia, matching Ryan Howard’s franchise record.
Luzardo worked seven scoreless innings with nine strikeouts. Philadelphia’s bullpen finished the shutout.
The Phillies improved to 74-60 and avoided being swept in Seattle.
San Diego Padres 3, Pittsburgh Pirates 0
The San Diego Padres salvaged the finale of their series against Pittsburgh with a 3-0 shutout at Petco Park.
Jackson Merrill doubled in the second inning and scored on Luis Rengifo’s RBI single. In the fourth, Manny Machado reached on a throwing error and eventually scored on Merrill’s triple. Jake Cronenworth added an RBI double in the eighth for the final run.
Randy Vásquez held Pittsburgh to one hit over five scoreless innings and improved to 10-6. Bradgley Rodriguez handled the final two innings for his second save.
The victory kept San Diego one game ahead of Arizona for the final National League wild-card position.
Miami Marlins 4, Boston Red Sox 0
Ryan Gusto and the Miami pitching staff shut out the Boston Red Sox 4-0 at loanDepot park, allowing the Marlins to avoid a three-game sweep.
Gusto worked 5 2/3 scoreless innings, allowing four hits while walking three. Javier Sanoja collected three hits and drove in a run, while Heriberto Hernández finished with two hits and an RBI. Otto López added two hits and two stolen bases.
Boston starter Sonny Gray allowed two runs and seven hits in five innings as he missed an opportunity to become the first 17-game winner in the majors this season.
The victory was Gusto’s first since July 30, 2025.
Toronto Blue Jays 3, Kansas City Royals 0
The Toronto Blue Jays ended Kansas City’s nine-game winning streak with a 3-0 shutout at Rogers Centre.
Nathan Lukes provided all of Toronto’s offense with a three-run homer in the bottom of the fourth inning. Seven Blue Jays pitchers combined on the shutout after Toronto was forced into another bullpen game.
Chad Dallas worked 2 2/3 scoreless innings to earn the victory, and Louis Varland recorded the final four outs for his 30th save.
One important correction from the original recap: Carter Jensen did not lead the Blue Jays’ lineup. Jensen plays for Kansas City and went 2-for-3 with a walk. Toronto improved to 65-69 and remained three games behind Cleveland for the final AL wild-card position.
Colorado Rockies 13, Washington Nationals 1
The Colorado Rockies erupted for four home runs in a 13-1 rout of the Washington Nationals.
Washington actually scored first when Andrés Chaparro hit a solo home run in the second inning. Colorado took control in the fifth when Troy Johnston hit a two-run homer and Cole Carrigg followed with another two-run shot.
The biggest blow came in the seventh, when Connor Norby launched his first career grand slam to give Colorado an 8-1 advantage. Hunter Goodman added a two-run homer in the eighth.
Norby finished with five RBIs and extended his hitting streak to 11 games. Tanner Gordon allowed one run over seven innings to earn the victory.
New York Yankees 9, Houston Astros 3
The New York Yankees broke open a close game in the seventh inning and defeated the Houston Astros 9-3 at Yankee Stadium.
Ben Rice hit his 35th home run of the season in the first inning, while Houston stayed close and eventually made it a 3-3 game.
Cody Bellinger provided the decisive hit in the seventh, driving a bases-loaded double off the center-field wall to score Trent Grisham and Rice. Spencer Jones and Jazz Chisholm Jr. added RBI hits during the four-run inning, and New York scored two more in the eighth.
Paul Blackburn earned the victory in relief, while Bennett Sousa took the loss. The Yankees improved to 75-57.
Milwaukee Brewers 8, New York Mets 1
The Milwaukee Brewers overcame a frightening start to the game and routed the New York Mets 8-1 at Citi Field.
Milwaukee starter Dustin May was struck in the upper back by a 106-mph line drive from A.J. Ewing on the first pitch of the game and was forced to leave. The Brewers later announced that May suffered a bruised right shoulder blade and that X-rays were negative.
Robert Gasser replaced him and delivered 5 1/3 innings of one-run relief to earn the win.
Milwaukee scored four runs in the second inning and Brice Turang broke the game open with a three-run homer in the fourth. Sal Frelick collected three hits and drove in two runs as the Brewers improved to an MLB-best 82-51.
Chicago White Sox 10, Texas Rangers 4
Tristan Peters continued his remarkable home-run streak as the Chicago White Sox defeated the Texas Rangers 10-4 at Rate Field.
Peters homered for the fifth consecutive game, matching both the White Sox franchise record and the MLB rookie record for consecutive games with a home run. He finished with three hits and three RBIs.
Brenton Doyle was another major contributor, hitting a three-run homer and adding an RBI single to finish with four runs batted in. Chicago finished with 15 hits.
Sean Newcomb threw three scoreless innings in relief to earn the victory, while Jonathan Cannon pitched the final three innings for the save.
The win kept the White Sox 2½ games ahead of Cleveland in the AL Central.
Athletics 7, Minnesota Twins 4
The Athletics erased an early deficit to defeat the Minnesota Twins 7-4 at Sutter Health Park and take the three-game series.
Minnesota built an early advantage with home runs from Brooks Lee, Trevor Larnach and Kaelen Culpepper, but the Athletics began cutting into the lead before taking control with four runs in the sixth inning.
Jeff McNeil doubled home a run before Alika Williams ripped a two-run triple that put the Athletics ahead. Darell Hernaiz followed with an RBI single to extend the advantage to 6-4.
Lawrence Butler added a solo homer in the seventh for the final run. Tommy White finished with three hits as the Athletics completed the comeback and improved to 53-81.
Wednesday’s schedule produced 15 completed games, with Atlanta’s walk-off victory, Cincinnati’s historic ninth-inning comeback and Baltimore’s late win providing the night’s biggest drama. The pitching performances were equally notable, with Tampa Bay, Arizona, Philadelphia, San Diego, Miami and Toronto all holding their opponents to three runs or fewer, including five shutouts across the slate.
