Sunderland will play at the San Siro against AC Milan in their first European campaign in more than 50 years, after Friday's Europa League draw placed them alongside two other Premier League clubs in high-profile matchups.
The Black Cats, who finished seventh in the Premier League last season, last played in Europe in 1973. Their eight league-phase matches will also include games against AZ Alkmaar, GNK Dinamo, Anderlecht, Jagiellonia, Lech Poznan, Levski Sofia, and Torreense, according to BBC Sport.
Bournemouth, making their debut in European competition, will host AC Milan at home. The Cherries will also travel to face Real Sociedad among their eight fixtures, which include Viktoria Plzen, Sparta Praha, Sturm Graz, Celta Vigo, Hapoel Be'er Sheva, and Lillestrom.
Crystal Palace received what BBC Sport described as arguably the toughest draw among the three Premier League sides. Pierre Sage's squad will face Lyon, Real Sociedad, and Besiktas, along with Sparta Praha, Salzburg, Lech Poznan, Jagiellonia, and Hoffenheim. It will be the first time Palace have competed in the Europa League after being demoted from the competition last July for breaching multi-club ownership rules.
Celtic dropped into the Europa League after surrendering a four-goal lead against LASK in the Champions League play-off earlier this week. The Scottish Premiership champions will face Marseille, Benfica, and Besiktas in the league phase.
In the Conference League, Brighton's draw includes AS Monaco and Spanish side Getafe. Hearts will also play Monaco and are set for a trip to Trabzonspor, the club now associated with Mohamed Salah.
In the Europa League, each of the 36 teams plays eight different opponents, four at home and four away. The top eight finishers advance directly to the round of 16. Teams finishing ninth through 24th enter a two-legged knockout play-off round, while those finishing 25th or below are eliminated and cannot drop into any other European competition.
The Europa League final is scheduled for May 26 in Frankfurt. The Conference League final will follow six days later in Istanbul.
