Scottish striker Kieron Bowie is getting another chance to prove himself on the national stage after being left out of Scotland’s World Cup squad. He started in a new 3-4-1-2 formation with Oli McBurnie up front under the guidance of coach Sébastien Pocognoli.

Bowie scored Scotland’s opening goal in a 2-0 Nations League victory over North Macedonia on October 3. It was his first senior international goal and ended Scotland’s 422-minute scoring drought.

The system calls for more movement and strength against defenders, which Bowie has shown he can handle.

Bowie said the new system plays to his strengths and allows him to make runs behind defenders while using his physical strength. Pocognoli has also had more time with the squad because of the longer international break and has used it to introduce his ideas.

Bowie first played for Raith Rovers at the age of sixteen and later spent time with Hibernian. He said many Scottish fans still remember the player he was at Hibs but believes his move to Serie A has helped him reach another level.

The new setup is still early in its development for both Pocognoli and the players involved.
