Dodi Lukébakio opened the scoring for Belgium early in the first half giving the visitors a lead at Stade de France. France managed to tie the game in the second half when Désiré Doué scored a low drive from just outside the penalty area.
Rayan Cherki then put France ahead with a goal shortly after Doué’s equalizer. Michael Olise added two more goals as France completed a 4-1 victory.
This victory moved France three points ahead of Italy at the top of Group A1 in the Nations League standings according to The Guardian.
Belgium remained one point behind France still in a strong position in the group. France manager Zinedine Zidane made several changes to his lineup keeping only Ousmane Dembélé among the ten players rotated.
Belgium were missing key players Kevin De Bruyne and Youri Tielemans due to suspension during the match. The Belgian team took advantage of a defensive gap in France’s setup with Roméo Lavia’s pass creating the opportunity for Lukébakio to score.
Doué managed to get the ball and shoot it past Belgium’s goalkeeper Vandevoordt to level the score. France had previously beaten Belgium 1-0 in a match played in Brussels last week thanks to a late goal from Olise.
In other Nations League matches Viktor Gyökeres scored in his seventh consecutive game for Sweden against Romania. Ivan Basic scored a late penalty to help Bosnia and Herzegovina defeat Poland 1-0 in Group B4.
Marcus Edwards scored a stoppage-time goal for Cyprus leading them to a 2-1 win over Latvia in Group C2.
In another Nations League match Northern Ireland held Georgia to a scoreless draw after a chaotic finish at Windsor Park. Liverpool goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili saved a late penalty from Isaac Price to prevent Northern Ireland from scoring.
Northern Ireland had previously kept clean sheets in four straight competitive games with goalkeeper Pierce Charles making crucial stops. The team remained at the top of Group B2 just ahead of Hungary by a single point.
Northern Ireland had beaten Ukraine 3-0 in their previous Nations League match. They also defeated Georgia 1-0 in Tbilisi earlier in the competition.
