A search is underway in Lexington, South Carolina for a personal trainer who went missing after leaving a gym last Thursday. Elena Katherine Moore, 39, signed into a Planet Fitness at 560 Whiteford Way at 6:40 p.m. and has not been heard from since.
Moore is a personal trainer at Wolf's Fitness Center in Lexington and regularly visited the Planet Fitness location where she was last seen. She was reported missing the following day, according to the Lexington Police Department.
Lexington Police Department Inspector Missy Silcox told ABC News that the disappearance is unusual for Moore. "This is very out of character for her," Silcox said.
Moore was last seen walking away from the Planet Fitness toward a wooded area behind a nearby Lowe's Home Improvement store. Police used drones to search the woods on Friday without finding anything, and officers returned to canvass the area on Monday. "We just wanted to make sure before we rule this whole area out that there's not anything that we missed," Silcox said.
Police described Moore as 5 feet 7 inches tall and approximately 120 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes. She was last seen wearing an olive-green zip-up hoodie and black athletic pants. It is unknown whether she had her cellphone with her.
Silcox said tips from the public remain central to the investigation. "We're just hoping tips come in," she said. "Even the smallest tip could be the biggest thing for us to crack open this case."
