One person was killed and another was wounded in a shooting inside Wilmington Hospital in Wilmington, Delaware, on Tuesday afternoon. The suspect had not been caught as of Tuesday evening.

Police Chief Wilfredo Campos said officers responded to the hospital at approximately 3:30 p.m. and located two gunshot victims. According to Fox News, one of those victims later died from his injuries.

"One of those victims has tragically died from his injuries," Campos said. "Further information on the other victim's condition and the identity of both victims is being withheld at this time, out of respect for the families."

The suspect's identity had not been confirmed by Tuesday evening. "The suspect is outstanding at this time, and we are actively working to identify, confirm his identity and locate him," Campos said at an evening briefing.

Scanner traffic reviewed by Fox News Digital indicated police were attempting to locate a vehicle with Delaware registration that may be connected to the shooting. Authorities had not publicly identified a vehicle of interest.

ChristianaCare, which operates Wilmington Hospital, confirmed the shooting and placed the campus on lockdown. The emergency department was placed on divert. "We are working closely with law enforcement and taking all appropriate steps to ensure the safety of our patients, caregivers and visitors. This is an active police investigation for a possible active shooter," the hospital said in a statement.

Aerial footage from the scene showed a large police presence surrounding the hospital campus. Multiple law enforcement vehicles were visible outside, and people were seen exiting the building with their hands raised.

The lockdown was later lifted as police began clearing the scene.

Delaware Sen. Chris Coons said he was tracking the situation. "I'm closely monitoring reports of a shooting at Wilmington Hospital," he wrote on X. "I'm praying for everyone's safety, including patients, health care workers, first responders, and law enforcement officers. Please continue to follow updates from local officials."

Authorities had not released information about where inside the hospital the shooting occurred or what may have led to it. Campos said the investigation remains active and that additional details would be released as they become available.
