Voters in five states are heading to the polls Tuesday, with the most closely watched contest taking place in Michigan, where Representative Haley Stevens and Abdul El-Sayed are competing in a Democratic Senate primary.

The race has drawn national attention as a potential indicator of where the Democratic Party is headed. Stevens, a sitting member of Congress, and El-Sayed, a physician and former candidate for Michigan governor, represent competing wings of the party.

According to CBS News, the matchup has become one of the day's biggest primary races. CBS News correspondents Aaron Navarro and Anthony Salvanto are tracking results. The Guardian described the contest as part of a broader battle over the party's future.

Live results from multiple outlets including NBC News and CNN are being tracked throughout the evening as ballots are counted across Michigan and the other four states holding primaries on Tuesday.
