Peacock is raising its prices across all three of its subscription tiers, effective immediately, after the NBCUniversal streaming service posted its first profitable quarter since launching in 2020.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, the ad-supported Peacock Premium plan will now cost $12.99 per month, up from $10.99. The ad-free Peacock Premium Plus plan will rise by $3 to $19.99 per month. The entry-level Peacock Select tier goes up by $1 to $8.99 per month.
The price increases come shortly after NBCUniversal reported its first-ever profitable quarter for the service, following years of trimming start-up losses. The move also follows NBCUniversal's separation from Versant. Under its current structure within Comcast, the company retains NBC, Bravo, Peacock and its studios. Versant holds Comcast's cable properties and digital assets.
Peacock had 48 million subscribers during the second quarter of this year, up from 46 million in the first quarter and 41 million in the same period a year ago. The growth has been steady, though NBCUniversal executives have cautioned that profitability or losses will vary quarter by quarter depending on sports schedules and other content commitments.
Sports remain central to Peacock's value proposition. The platform holds streaming rights to Sunday Night Football, the NBA, the WNBA, the Premier League, and college football and basketball. On the film side, the service's upcoming lineup includes The Super Mario Galaxy Movie and a film called Obsession, alongside scripted series like The Five Star Weekend and reality programming including The Traitors and Love Island USA.
