Netflix has used generative AI tools in roughly 300 of its titles so far in 2026, the company disclosed in a shareholder letter detailing its second-quarter financials, according to a report by Engadget.
The letter stated that "In 2026, GenAI workflows have been used in roughly 300 of our titles, with the largest concentration of work in post-production." Netflix named three specific productions that used generative AI to create highly complex sequences: Glory, produced in India; Brasil 70: A Saga do Tri, from Brazil; and The American Experiment, a US production.
Netflix described the technology as a way to deliver higher quality output more quickly and at lower cost than traditional methods. The company has been expanding its use of the tools through a combination of acquisitions and the launch of new specialized studios. It was already known that Netflix had applied generative AI in at least one original show as of July 2025, but the scale of use has grown substantially since then.
The 300-title figure covers a broad range of applications, not all of which involve replacing human creative work. Post-production tasks such as visual effects, scene extension, and image cleanup are among the areas where AI tools have been integrated into existing workflows. Human involvement remains part of the process, as creative teams still review and adjust AI-generated material to ensure it fits with the rest of a film or show.
Netflix has not said whether the number of AI-assisted titles is expected to grow in the second half of 2026, but the company's shareholder letter indicated no intention to slow its adoption of the technology.
