Jackson Koivun won a PGA Tour event in just his third start as a professional golfer. The 21-year-old finished at 25-under 259 at TPC Twin Cities in Blaine, Minnesota on Sunday, setting a tournament record and beating world number one Scottie Scheffler by three strokes.
According to the Associated Press, Koivun played bogey-free for the second straight day in 97-degree heat, closing with a 5-under 66. A day earlier he had shot a 61 to build a three-shot cushion going into the final round.
Koivun led Auburn to the NCAA championship last month and made 10 starts as an amateur on tour events before turning professional. He missed the cut at the John Deere Classic in Illinois and tied for 10th at the ISCO Championship in Kentucky earlier this month. The 3M Open win made him the fourth rookie winner on tour this season.
Scheffler surged into contention with a 63, playing five groups ahead of Koivun. He finished with his fourth runner-up result of the 2026 season. His only win this year came at The American Express in California in his first start of the year. Hideki Matsuyama, Brian Harman, Chandler Phillips and Denny McCarthy tied for third at 20-under.
The previous 3M Open scoring record was held by Lee Hodges, who finished at 24-under 260 in 2023.
Koivun earned $1,584,000 for the victory and jumped 124 spots in the FedEx Cup standings, landing at 70th place. That is the last position above the cut line for the playoffs, with two regular season events still remaining on the schedule.
