The Cherokee Nation project is not the only major tribal health investment underway in Oklahoma. The Chickasaw Nation recently broke ground on a new medical campus in Newcastle, also reported by Tribal Business News. Newcastle is located in central Oklahoma, southwest of Oklahoma City, and sits within the Chickasaw Nation's traditional territory.
The Chickasaw Nation has been expanding its healthcare network for years, operating clinics and hospitals across southern Oklahoma. The Newcastle medical campus groundbreaking adds to that footprint and signals continued investment in facilities that serve both tribal citizens and surrounding communities.
Tribal health systems operate under a unique funding structure that draws on a combination of federal dollars through the Indian Health Service, tribal government revenues, and in some cases, third-party insurance billing.
